How Live Casino has Evolved

2 Mins read

Casinos have welcomed vast numbers of players through their doors in the many centuries they’ve existed. These days, casino goers also have the option to play their favourite game online, from wherever they find themselves connected to the internet, as well as down at a local brick-and-mortar casino establishment.

As technology has advanced further, it’s now possible for players to spin the Roulette wheel or be dealt a hand of cards in either Blackjack or Poker, all whilst sitting at home, thanks to live casino games online at Griffon Casino, for example.

With this in mind, we wanted to take a look at the journey of casino games over the years, and see how they’ve evolved.

Read on, to find out more.

Where it all began

The Ca’ Vendramin Calergi, also known as Casino di Venezia, is a 15th-century palace located along the Grand Canal, Venice, Italy, where it’s said construction of the building commenced in 1481.

Although beginning construction in 1481, the Ca’ Vendramin Caleegi first welcomed players through its doors in 1638. Surprisingly, the doors remain open to this very day, allowing visitors and locals a chance to play a game or two within the oldest casino on Earth!

Soon after opening its doors to the public, many other casino establishments started popping up all over the world, and casinos began to be known as the go to place for a friends’ night out.

Rise in technology

It wasn’t until 1996 that we saw an online casino first open its virtual doors on the world wide web. During this time, the internet was still catching on and slowly reaching people’s homes.

After a few years, the internet grew stronger and more popular, reaching more and more people around the world – and with it, bringing online casino games into more players’ lives.

Word soon spread about the ease and simplicity of accessing casino favorites from the comfort of your own home.

As popularity grew and technology advanced, it wasn’t long before smartphones hit the market, allowing players to grab a game on the move. From here, popularity soared, and gaming developers regularly unveiled new games.

Live games

As online casinos evolved in recent years, it’s become possible to live stream games from specialist studios to players’ chosen devices, allowing them to soak up the casino experience of a live dealer game from the comfort of the sofa – or wherever they may find themselves logging in from.

Within these live streamed games, players from all over the world can join the virtual table, where unlike land-based casino tables, there’s no maximum number of players.

Plus, everyone playing can communicate to one another, as well as the dealer, via the live chat tab within gameplay – so, if you have any questions about the game, you can simply send a question into the chat and the dealer will answer it, in real-time.

Future gaming

Although nothing has been released as of yet, it’s said that virtual reality (VR) live casino games are in development, allowing players to join a game using a VR headset.
